Become a Volunteer
Support survivors. Show up when it matters most.
In the moments following a sudden loss, families, friends, and witnesses are often left overwhelmed, in shock, and unsure where to turn.
That’s where you come in.
We are building a dedicated team of volunteers to serve on the LOSS Team (Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors) in Pickens County, South Carolina. Alongside first responders, this team helps provide immediate, compassionate support to those impacted by loss.
If you feel called to this work, take the next step. Complete the volunteer interest form to begin the process. Once submitted, a member of our team will follow up with additional details and information about next steps.

What do LOSS Team volunteers do?
As a LOSS Team volunteer, you’re not there to “fix” anything. You’re there to be present, to listen, and to care. You’ll offer a calm presence during some of life’s most difficult moments. Volunteers are trained to:
- Provide peer-to-peer emotional support
- Practice active listening without judgment
- Help stabilize intense emotional responses
- Offer validation and comfort in grief
- Foster connection and reduce feelings of isolation

What kind of people are we looking for?
No prior clinical experience is required. We just need people with a heart for helping others who may have been impacted by suicide themselves. We’re seeking individuals who are:
- Compassionate and empathetic
- Able to remain calm in emotionally intense situations
- Ready to listen attentively with a nonjudgmental mindset
- Committed to serving their community
- Willing to complete training and participate in team response efforts
Why This Work Matters
Survivors of suicide loss often experience profound grief, confusion, and trauma.
Having someone show up in those first moments—someone who understands and cares—can make a lasting difference in their healing journey.
